Healthy Wearables Hackathon

September 26, 2016

Wearable devices commonly monitor our steps, heart rates, breathing and sleep.  But in what other ways can they contribute to our health and well-being?  The Healthy Wearables Hackathon, co-sponsored by Yale ITS and Being Well at Yale and presented as part of the 2016 Yale Technology Summit, challenges Yale faculty, staff, and students to develop new and innovative applications for wearable technology that encourages or enables a healthier lifestyle at Yale.  The event takes place October 21-23 with a kickoff at 143 Elm Street and online.

Individuals or teams have two days to work on projects that fall into one or more of the following categories:

  • Physical activity
  • Nutrition
  • Weight management
  • Tobacco cessation
  • Stress management
  • Sexual wellness
  • Sleep

In the spirit of the healthy hackathon, nutritious snacks will be provided at the kickoff and all participants must pledge to sleep at least seven consecutive hours each night.

The top three projects will win prizes and be featured in a presentation at the 2016 Yale Technology Summit on October 28 at the Yale School of Management.
